Red Beeswax Taper Candles, Oaxaca

Red Beeswax Taper Candles, Oaxaca
In the Zapotec village of Teotitlán del Valle, candle-making is more than tradition. It is an art form. This region of Oaxaca is home to family-run workshops that produce some of the most intricate ceremonial beeswax candles in Mexico, known as velas tradicionales de concha. Passed down through generations, these ornate beeswax sculptures are adorned with wax flowers originally shaped in shells and are still made for saint’s days, weddings, and sacred offerings.
These handmade red taper candles come from a third-generation candle-making family in Teotitlán. Each pair is poured by hand using locally sourced beeswax and tinted with natural pigments. They reflect the beauty of Oaxaca’s candle-making heritage while supporting small-scale beekeepers and sustainable practices. With their deep color and quiet presence, these tapers carry the spirit of devotional ritual into the everyday.
