About this Particular Stone

This chunk of amazonite was hand collected in Colorado, U.S.A. by one of my favorite mineral people, whom I visit every year in Tucson. Amazonite was one of the first crystals I ever purchased, as I was instantly captivated by its color. Colorado produces some of the finest material, known for its intensely saturated tones and well-defined formations.

With its soothing, Tiffany-blue color and natural sculptural form, this piece makes a striking addition to any space. About the Mineral: Amazonite

Amazonite is a green to blue-green variety of feldspar, specifically microcline. Its color ranges from soft mint to deeper teal, often with subtle white streaking or a slightly mottled, almost painterly surface. It is colored by trace amounts of lead and water within the crystal structure, not copper as is often assumed. Notable sources include Brazil, Madagascar, Russia, and Colorado, with Colorado material especially known for its rich color and association with smoky quartz.

Amazonite has been valued across cultures for thousands of years, moving between ornament and symbolism. In ancient Egypt, it was used in amulets, jewelry, and burial objects, with examples found in the tomb of Tutankhamun, where it was associated with protection and renewal. Later, in the 18th and 19th centuries, amazonite from Russia’s Ural Mountains became especially prized among the aristocracy for its distinctive color and refined appearance, reinforcing its long-standing association with beauty and presence.
