Blue lace agate forms slowly within the cavities of volcanic rock, as silica-rich fluids move through hollow spaces left behind as lava cools. Over time, microscopic quartz accumulates in delicate layers, creating the soft banding and lace-like patterns characteristic of this variety of chalcedony. This geode is an exceptional example of the material, with a naturally formed interior lined in periwinkle-blue banded chalcedony and covered in sparkling druzy crystals.
