Barro Rojo Plates & Beeswax Taper Candle Set — Oaxaca

Barro Rojo Plates & Beeswax Taper Candle Set — Oaxaca
Handmade in Oaxaca, this sculptural pairing brings together two time-honored traditions: barro rojo red clay pottery and hand-poured beeswax taper candles.
The small red clay plates are shaped by Zapotec women artisans in San Marcos Tlapazola using barro rojo, a richly pigmented red clay sourced from the surrounding hills. Each piece is formed entirely by hand without a wheel or mold, then burnished with river stone and low-fired in an open pit. The result is a natural satin-like finish and a slightly irregular shape that reflects its handmade nature.
The accompanying taper candles are made in Teotitlán del Valle using locally sourced beeswax and a slow-pouring method passed down through generations. I particularly love the unique shape of these candles.
Together this set offers a functional display of ancestral Oaxacan craft. Perfect as altar pieces or tabletop accents.
