About this Particular Crystal

This exceptional specimen from an old Italian collection features two petite yet vividly gemmy watermelon tourmaline crystals emerging from a sculptural bed of orthoclase, accented by sparkling clear quartz. The tourmalines display the classic pink cores with soft green outer zoning, their translucency catching the light beautifully against the milky feldspar matrix.

The official mineral name for non-black tourmaline is elbaite, a lithium-rich variety first identified on the Island of Elba in Italy. Elba’s complex pegmatites have produced some of the most celebrated tourmalines in mineral history, and specimens from this classic European locality are increasingly scarce.
