The Diffuser — Quartz var. Prase, Greece

The Diffuser — Quartz var. Prase, Greece
Locale — Serifos, Greece
About this Particular Crystal
This spiky mineral specimen is prase, a striking green variety of quartz colored by microscopic needle-like inclusions of amphibole minerals, most commonly actinolite. These inclusions formed during crystal growth within ancient hydrothermal systems, giving the quartz its soft, mossy, olive-green glow and distinctive natural texture.
The name prase comes from the ancient Greek word prason, meaning “leek,” a reference to its muted green color. While green quartz occurs in a number of localities worldwide, the Greek island of Serifos is a well-known and highly regarded source of prase specimens. These are difficult specimens to obtain.
