About this Particular Crystal

One of the few Greek minerals I have had in the past was this golden selenite, so I was especially excited to encounter it again. Thanks to inclusions of limonite, this selenite carries distinctive golden-yellow stripes that run throughout the crystal. It has the aligning and clarifying properties of clear selenite with a golden twist. This addition makes it a wonderful stone for dissipating energetic blockages, especially relating to mental clarity, that are derailing manifestation efforts.

Selenite comes from the Greek word Selene (Σελήνη), meaning “Moon,” a reference to its soft, moonlike translucence. The term was later adopted into modern mineralogy in the 18th–19th century to describe the transparent, crystalline variety of gypsum known for its luminous, light-transmitting quality.

About the Mineral: Selenite

Selenite is the transparent, crystalline variety of gypsum. It forms when calcium-rich water evaporates or through low-temperature hydrothermal processes. As the water evaporates or conditions change, dissolved calcium sulfate crystallizes into luminous crystals. Selenite comes in a variety of forms and colors and can be found in locales all over the world.

Named after Selene, the ancient Greek goddess of the Moon, it carries like its namesake a potent, divine energy. In the metaphysical world, it is regarded as one of the highest-vibration stones and is among the most classic crystals for energetic purification. It is a clearing stone, bringing more spiritual light into the auric field. Especially activating for the crown and higher chakras, it clears constricting energetic blockages that prevent connection with your highest self. Working with selenite restores this dialogue, creating a direct telepathic line of communication with Source and activating your intuitive gifts and ability to download higher wisdom.

Selenite has a consistently high, clear vibration. Rather than absorbing or retaining dense energy, it allows energy to move through and disperse naturally. For this reason, it never needs to be cleansed, making it one of the most effective stones for calibrating other crystals. My crystal mentor, Mi-key, taught me the trick of keeping a small piece of selenite in my crystal boxes to keep their energy potent and free from outside influence while I wasn't actively using them. Selenite plates are excellent for resting crystals on, helping keep them clear and energetically charged. Likewise, placing selenite anywhere in your home or workspace is believed to help maintain a high-vibrational environment.
