CV x BM PLAYLISTS
Brandon McMahon and I bonded over Paolo Soleri's utopian architecture, The Long Goodbye, and Robert Redford's overall perfection. We both lament being born in the '80s or maybe we just partied too hard at Studio 54 and now we are longing for the golden days of our past lives. Whatever the case, this shared nostalgia for the '60s and '70s made us ideal musical collaborators. We created a series of playlists to capture the essence of our favorite California locations during the times we might have once lived.
NO. 1: TEMESCAL
Temescal pays an homage to the rustic canyons just above PCH. It feels like a late afternoon drive through the back roads of the Santa Monica mountains with all the windows down... crisp salty air, whiffs of wildflowers and old wood, and flickers of golden light just before the sun sets.

NO. 2: LECHUZA
Lechuza is inspired by the sandy shores of Malibu. As you listen to these guitar riffs and dazed melodies imagine gazing at the sparkling pacific waves, frolicking in the sunshine, and feeling stoked from an epic day of surf.

NO. 3: MONTECITO
Just next to Santa Barbara lies the coastal enclave of Montecito, nestled between the Pacific Ocean and Santa Ynez Mountains. It is a sun-drenched paradise where eucalyptus, juniper, and bougainvillea grow on sprawling estates next to pristine Spanish-style architecture. This playlist is a taste of this Shangri-La. For the full experience grab your sun reflector, find a lanai, whip up a batch of rum punch, and let your mind drift away with these tunes as you soak up the rays.

NO. 4: LOMA VISTA
Once just an unmapped wilderness known simply as El Sur Grande, Big Sur is now widely known for its dramatic coastline, majestic redwoods, and inky green jade that can be plucked from the surf. With the creation of Highway 1 in 1937, tourists, artists, and counter-culture movements would flock to the area, making it a go to spot for bohemian living, spirituality, and alternative healing. It is a magical place of epic tranquility and grandiose nature, captured by the novels of Henry Miller and Jack Kerouac, the black and white landscapes of Edward Weston and Ansel Adams, and in Hunter S. Thompson’s debut story for Rogue Magazine in 1961. This playlist is inspired by the freedom of spirit that Big Sur unleashes within all who are lucky enough to visit.

NO. 5: GARRAPATA
Our fifth and final playlist in our California inspired series is a tribute to the quaint seaside town of Carmel. It’s the perfect soundtrack to accompany collecting driftwood on the beach, a drive along the Monterey Coast, or just for a misty candlelit evening in a cozy bungalow.
