SPECIMEN — This is an extra large and extremely high-quality pyrite sun with beautiful abstract patterns. These “suns” are an incredibly unique, special, and rare form of Pyrite. They are concretions made from the pure crystallization of pyrite that can only be found amongst narrow seams of coal in one area of Illinois. They have been extracted from 300 feet below the surface of the earth and are around 300 million years old. Pyrite Suns are also known as “miner’s dollars” because coal miners would find them while working in the mines and bring them home in their lunchboxes.
