Pictures by David Hockney offers a diverse and wide-ranging representative selection of the British artist’s work in every medium, from the early sketches and paintings to his latest innovations at the time of the book’s publication in 1979. It has 144 reproductions, 61 in full color, which vibrantly portray a wide spectrum of subjects that have been thematically arranged: still-lifes and objects, Egypt, curtains, showers, California, pools and water, people, travels, inventions, and set designs. These categories give us a unique glimpse into the artist’s approach to his favorite concerns and the inventive ways in which he returns to them again and again.
