SPECIMEN — Large raw ruby specimen with “record keepers” and traces of black tourmaline. When a crystal has “record keepers” (this term was first introduced into the metaphysical crystal world by my teacher, Katrina Raphaell) such as this one does (usually clear quartz but I have also seen them on pyrite and sapphire, and there are certainly others), it means it has triangular patterning on its surface. These crystals are regarded as the stone equivalent of memory sticks stored with ancient knowledge and wisdom. They are believed to be encoded with the secrets of the Universe, including lessons and experiences from advanced beings not from this world.* Record Keepers are reminders that “our bodies keep the score”, and if we should choose to access our inner libraries of information, the answers we are seeking will emerge from this inner truth.

*My approach to working with crystals is to make them as practical and relatable as possible so I do not delve too deeply into more metaphysical topics such as the Atlantians, the Lemurians, and Akashic Records but record keepers are linked with these if you are interested in researching them!

Raw ruby is an energizing stone that helps to cultivate and enhance our commitment to our interests and desires. With increased energetic reserves, we possess the capacity and ability to overcome any situations that create resistance and prevent us from moving forward. For these reasons, rubies are powerful stones to invoke when in a cycle of mired repetition. Rubies awaken our senses and remind us of the pleasures of the human experience.

Physical energy is our vital life force. A version or concept of it exists in every culture: prana (Hindus), qi (Chinese), pneuma (Ancient Greeks), spiritus (Latin), ruach (Hebrew), asé (Yoruba in Africa), orenda (The Iroquois) just to name a few. In the chakra system, this energy originates at the base of the spine at the root chakra (1st) and is then harnessed and converted through the other chakras, starting with the sacral (2nd). Each person is individually responsible for choosing how they convert this energy into conscious action, thus deciding what reality they create and bring into existence. Red stones fuel these efforts by addressing the obstacles that are holding one back from doing what is in alignment with their higher self such as: increasing stamina and drive, overcoming lethargy, feeling courageous or unafraid, feeling empowered, or being apathetic. The energy of red stones is powerful, energizing, fiery, passionate, intense, sensual, ambitious, and cleansing.
