THE CV GIFT EDIT 2023

Crystals are the perfect gift for every single person; even if you might think someone isn't into crystals. Chances are they just haven't been introduced to the right one or their scope is limited to thinking crystals are just for people who are super into Sedona and thus maybe not for them. Crystals are for everyone!

WHY A CRYSTAL IS THE PERFECT GIFT

They are one-of-a-kind objects that took the Earth millions of years to make. You will get major props for giving such an original, thoughtful, and beautifully wrapped present (I'll take care of that so you don't even have to worry)! If you don't see something in the shop, reach out as I may just not have it listed.

BUT I DON’T KNOW WHICH ONE TO GET!

If you are unsure which crystal to give, just ask and I'll help with the matchmaking! And don't forget to treat yourself too!

HERE ARE C.V.'s SUGGESTIONS FOR A WIDE VARIETY OF NEEDS, INSPIRED BY DIFFERENT PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD SPECIAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH ROCKS AND CRYSTALS.

FIG. 1 — Andy Warhol shot BY Christopher Makos, c. 1981.

FOR ART SNOBS

These are super sculptural pieces that could easily pass as contemporary works just nabbed at David Zwirner. They look incredible and they feel even better. When someone inquires who the artist is of one of these statement pieces, just reply "Are you living under a rock?!" That's a crystal person's sense of humor for you.

"Look, I know people are ridiculous, but it's the crystals I believe in. They do work. When you think that these crystals were in the center of the earth and have all this energy."
— Andy Warhol, c. 1985.

FIG. 2 — Andy Warhol’s Quartz Crystal. Worn constantly by Warhol until he died in 1987, this crystal was given to Brigid Berlin by Warhol's executor Fred Hughes around the time of Warhol's funeral. Brigid placed the crystal to be close to her, on her bedside table until her death in 2020.

FOR THE CHICEST PERSON YOU KNOW

For the Tina Chow in your life, give gemstones. We're talking about the stuff found in fine jewelry...aquamarine, emerald, morganite, and tourmaline. These beauties are refined in appearance and display with quiet elegance. They are extremely potent in energetic influence just like the person you are gifting.

In a Vanity Fair essay, “Ciao Tina,” Maureen Orth writes:

One day Warhol showed Tina two crystal pendants he’d been wearing, and told her they had powerful healing properties. From then on she was hooked on beautiful rocks, and they went with her everywhere. After a proposal to work on an accessory line with the famed French bead embroiderer Lcsage fell through in 1986, she decided to design jewelry using crystals. “She wanted people to be beamed up without even knowing it.” says Ann Moss, who is married to Jerry Moss and also collects crystals.

FOR THOSE WHO NEED SOME T.L.C. (TENDER-LOVING CRYSTALS)

Whether you need to remind someone that they are loved or just want to pass along some nurturing vibes, these are the stones that provide comfort and relief in a myriad of ways.

"I believe that if we tune into the waves of the crystal, we can tune into the energy of the planet." — Marina Abramović, pictured above, has used crystals consistently in her work

Fig. 17 — Marina Abramović, "Waiting Room", c. 1993. Part of her series "Transitory Objects", this interactive installation features a rotating selection of stones (seen here are chrysocolla, smoky quartz, clear quartz, and lapis lazuli).

FOR INTERIOR CLEANSING

These crystals influence their chosen space by tackling negative energy and EMFs, refreshing with doses of pure crystalline vibes, and harmonizing the overall feel, all while looking really good and fitting in seamlessly with tasteful decor.

"Throw out and keep throwing out. Elegance means elimination."
— Jean-Michel Frank, whose brilliant and thoughtfully designed crystal light fixtures would eventually pave the way for the ubiquitous Himalayan salt lamp

FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS (AND ADULTS TOO)

Crystals are amazing for young people (as long as they are old enough to not put them in their mouth of course) as they help to encourage their natural ways of being and to honor who they innately are. For this reason, this selection is also wonderful for adults who need to reconnect with their inner child for healing purposes or to reestablish their authentic sense of self.

FOR ANYONE TRYING TO BUILD SOMETHING

If you know someone who is looking to call something big into their life or who is trying to gain momentum on a new project, let's break down which crystals are perfect for them.

"Faced with this solid block of raw earth, the power of this object of reality rendered everybody speechless, and we stood there, rooted to the spot… I could feel the passing of time’s quiet emptiness…" — Nobuo Sekine, mono-ha artist

The Mono-ha artists tended to present natural and industrial materials such as stone, soil, wood, paper, cotton, steel plates, and paraffin—”things” (mono)—on their own or in combination with one another. Contrary to the mainstream anti-art tendencies of Zenēi Bijutsu (avant-garde art), Mono-ha attempted to reconfigure art through the reduction of objects to their primary form. Unaltered, natural matter and objects were considered not as material, but in and of themselves significant and autonomous. Attempts were made to draw out a kind of artistic expression from matter by directly engaging in its being (ari-yō), perception, and relations.

FOR SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

These are the crystals for people who love crystals or for anyone who wants a trippier stone. These stones help with seeing past the material realm.

"Crystals ground human energy and bring the mind to an alpha state. When the left and right brain merge, we are home."  — Marcel Vogel, IBM scientist with 32 patents and inventor of the magnetic coating for hard disks. He also really loved crystals and believed wholeheartedly in their healing abilities (links to his videos here).
